The Wild Northeast
Let’s GoWild.BG
Program:
– the Dry River Canyon
– rock monasteries in the area
– the Late Antique fortress of Palmatys
Duration: Full-day tour
– Departure from Varna: 09:00
– Return: around 18:00
The rock monasteries of Dobruja are among the earliest of their kind in Bulgaria.
From here — the Roman province of Scythia — the monastic tradition that emerged in the East spread across Europe.
We’ll also explore the impressive remains of the once-prosperous Roman city of Palmatys.
The story will bring the ruins back to life, carrying us into a time when the monasteries and the city were buzzing with activity.
We’ll chat about the nature of Dobruja as well — and its lesser-known canyons.
We’ll learn, explore, laugh, get a little tired — maybe even work up a sweat…
